Registration for participation in the Seventh Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas and the Caribbean (RP21) is now open.

The Regional Platform, which was slated to be held July 8 to 10, 2020 in Montego Bay, Jamaica, had to be postponed due to the global health pandemic. The event will now be hosted virtually from November 1 to 4 and participant registration has been opened.

“We have just opened our registration, so I would invite everybody to stay tuned on our social media channel and on the Regional Platform webpage to sign up. We are organizing a top-quality event both in terms of the content and in terms of having a very nice virtual experience, so you will not be disappointed,” said the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Regional Office External Relations Officer, Saskia Carusi.

Ms. Carusi was speaking in a recent interview with JIS News about the seventh Regional Platform. The event is being organized by the UNDRR, the Government of Jamaica, and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA).

The topics to be covered include resilience building, climate change adaptation and also lessons learned from COVID-19.

Regional platforms are UNDRR conferences that bring together government officials and heads of disaster and emergency management agencies with key stakeholders in disaster risk reduction, to foster collaboration and the sharing of best practices and techniques.

The platforms aid countries in achieving the targets of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, 2015.

RP21 is the first UN regional platform to be hosted by a Caribbean country and had its name amended to reflect the Caribbean’s involvement.

For registration, interested participants may visit the platform’s webpage or the UNDRR’s social media at on Facebook and Twitter.
