The VII Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in the Americas and the Caribbean will convene under the theme, ‘Building Resilient Economies in the Americas and the Caribbean,’ to raise awareness of the increasing economic and human cost of disasters in the Americas and the Caribbean, including the special challenges facing small island developing States (SIDS).

As decided at the VI Regional Platform for DRR in the Americas in Cartagena, Colombia, in June 2018, the Forum will be hosted by the Government of Jamaica, the first Caribbean country to host a regional platform. The Seventh Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas and the Caribbean – RP21 – is chaired by The Government of Jamaica, and co-organized together with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) - Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean, and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA).

The event, which was postponed from its original date in July 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will take place virtually during the week of 1 to 4 of November 2021.
