The General Assembly through its resolutions 65/186, 64/131, and 64/154 urged the United Nations system to make a concerted effort to integrate disability into its work and encouraged the Inter Agency Support Group on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to work to ensure that development programmes, including Sustainable Development Goals policies, processes and mechanisms, are inclusive of and accessible to persons with disabilities.
UNDRR is actively coordinating to integrate disability into the implementation process of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030.
In line with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities principle on full and effective participation and inclusion in society, persons with disabilities should have the opportunity, on an equal basis with others, to be actively involved in all decision-making processes about policies and programmes, and at fora where international development is discussed.
International Sign Interpretation and Real Time Captioning
Given the mandate to support the Sendai Framework implementation and commitment to ensure a disability-inclusive approach to disaster risk reduction, Real Time Captioning and International Sign interpreters will support the opening and closing ceremonies and selected sessions to meet this commitment by ensuring the meaningful and active participation of persons with disabilities in the 2021 Regional Platform procedures and proceedings.
