A regional approach to coordination on multi-hazards: 2020 lessons from the Caribbean

This session will seek to review how countries have experienced the impacts of multiple hazards during 2020 (COVID-19, major hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes, displacement, etc.) and highlight how countries within the entire Caribbean region, and regional agencies, dealt with this multi-hazard environment. The session will aim to enhance the understanding on the importance of partnerships, collaboration and coordination for disaster risk reduction and emergency management in the context of multiple hazards. Similarly, it will showcase different response mechanisms implemented by regional agencies such as CDEMA and CEPREDENAC during the 2020 multi-hazard response. Recommendations on actions that may be undertaken by States and agencies within the entire Caribbean region to strengthen regional coordination for resilience against the multi-hazard context will be presented.
