 High Level Session 3
 Virtual

The importance of social protection and inclusion to strengthen community resilience as well as system-wide disaster risk management and governance, particularly in the context of complex and interconnected risk, has been made abundantly evident through the COVID-19 pandemic. Social protection is concerned with preventing, managing, and overcoming situations that adversely affect people’s well-being. It is of vital importance that there be increased harmonization amongst social protection policies and programmes, in order to reach the Sustainable Development Goals, the targets established on the Sendai Framework, and the objectives of the Paris Climate Agreement. This session will put forward good practices and concrete actionable recommendations for incorporating inclusive social protection policies that favour the development of resilient communities.

The session specifically aims to:

  • Present good practices, innovative solutions and concrete actionable recommendations for strengthening inclusive social protection mechanisms.
  • Present practices that promote community development through COVID-19 recovery for all.
  • Present a transformative approach to disaster risk management that includes climate risk.
