What to expect at RP27
The IX Regional Platform will convene governments, civil society, science, the private sector and local communities to accelerate implementation of the Sendai Framework in its final stretch. The programme turns on three themes, and The Bahamas' experience of resilient recovery runs through all of them.

The Commonwealth of The Bahamas brings a powerful story of resilience to the regional stage.
When Hurricane Dorian made landfall in 2019 as one of the most powerful Atlantic storms ever recorded, The Bahamas suffered over US $3.4 billion in damages. Rather than simply rebuilding, the country transformed its entire approach to disaster risk management — passing a landmark Disaster Risk Management Act in 2022 (in effect since 2024) that consolidated preparedness, response, mitigation and recovery under a single national framework.
Innovative financing mechanisms — including dedicated national funds drawing on dormant bank accounts — and community-led preparedness programmes on the Family Islands have made resilience a lived practice, not a policy document. This experience will shape the agenda for RP27 and offer a model for the wider Americas and Caribbean region.
What is the Regional Platform?
Regional Platforms are the principal mechanisms established under the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 for reviewing progress on implementation at the regional level. They bring together governments, intergovernmental bodies, the private sector, civil society, scientific and academic institutions, youth, and the media to share experience, advance knowledge, and make agreements on priorities for the Americas and Caribbean region.
RP27 meets three years before the Sendai Framework reaches its 2030 deadline, in the final stretch of implementation. The priorities agreed in Nassau will shape how the region approaches those remaining years. The IX Regional Platform will report to the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, feeding regional priorities into the global review of the Sendai Framework before it closes in 2030.
